Say It With Flowers

Happy Mothers Day. My inspiration today:

Florals ... the English countryside ... a bucolic idyll ... nature ... garden parties

Reading is Sexy

My resolution at the moment is to read more (books, not magazines). I am beginning with the most passionate and iconic of literary couples: Henry Miller and Anais Nin. Currently I am interested in all things '30s and '40s, and I think Miller and Nin captured the social mores and preoccupations of these decades most vividly: especially the burgeoning interest in psychoanalysis, freedom, sex, and passion. Anais Nin especially lived through the medium of literary creation, and projected herself and her ideals and the way she would like to be perceived throughout her works. Be seduced.

90s Revival: 'Nice Stems'

I have already been predicting a full-scale 90s revival here for a few months now ... and I want to remember the movie which captured the decade's penchant for preppy peppiness to perfection: Clueless (obvi!). From collar shirts, to knee high socks (set to the soundtrack of The Cranberries), the film definitively captured a sartorial moment in time.

One of my favourite scenes in the entire film is when the camera pans in on Cher's perfect pins and white t-bar mary janes.

Titanic Rose in New Seperation

Rose in Mini Screen
Rose (Kate Winslet) of Tatanic emerges as an actor in mini screen. Recently she has signed a contract for  TV mini-series Mildred Pierce, iwhich she will break up with her husband. This is a kind of display of her real relationship with her husband  Sam Mendes which ended after seven years. The TV serial is actually a remake of the 1945 John Crawford film.

Violet Darkling

My latest discovery is jewelery designer Violet Darkling. New Zealand designer Louisa Richwhite has fused the concepts of delicate jewelery with her love of the nocturnal and creatures only seen at night, using a mix of gold, silver and gemstones to create pieces which are beautifully handcrafted and extremely eye catching. Loves it!!!

(In Awe Of) Vibskov's Vision

Henrik Vibskov is so much more than just another fashion designer.  As well as producing 19 collections in the last 10 years (men's and womenswear), he has also found the time to tour with trentmoller; travel the world giving lectures; and to collaborate on various artistic endeavours which have been exhibited at such institutions as MOMA in New York and Palais de Tokyo in Paris (to name a couple). How cool.
