Hot Child in the City

If you are wondering what to wear now that it's summer in the city, then look no further for inspiration than Proenza Schouler's SS 11 collection. The PS boys epitomise polished New York style at it's best: super-groomed but with an edge. Think uptown-chic ladylike suits and easy dresses in neutrals and muted brights with interesting details.

Too cool for Schouler!

What's Cookin', Good Lookin'??

Spotted and made me smile: this print screen t of a young Johnny Depp (taken from the 90s camp classic Cry Baby) at the D&G Menswear Spring Summer 2011 collection. Then I clocked it again on French blogger Betty (of le Blog de Betty). We girls (and gays) can now all have a bit of Johnny to cherish! This the stuff teenage dreams were made of.

As he was ...

... What a Dreamboat!

Daria of Dogtown?

Celine's totally rad SS 11 ad campaign, starring Daria Werbowy and shot by Juergen Teller. (Hot combination, no??) To me it invokes the iconic images of Venice Beach and the Z Boys (aka the Lords of Dogtown) from the mid-seventies. Far Out.

Inspired By???

Also, check this out: another recent discovery of mine - Alex Olson, the multi-talented skateboarder/photographer/model. Love this photo:

Life in Soft Focus

There is something waaay mellow about the Chanel Spring Summer 2011 campaign, featuring Freja, Stella Tennant and Baptiste Giabiconi.  It's the perfect campaign (the best I've seen so far) for fashion's current leaning towards all things 70's. So Dope.

Emerging Trend: Cut Outs

There is a  trend slowly beginning to emerge at the moment for items of clothing with cut-out details. I like it because when I first came across it, I was instantly reminded of when I was younger and used to spend hours making those kirigami paper snowflakes by folding up paper and cutting out shapes. It is also a new way to show a subtle glimpse of skin and it allows for interesting and creative takes on staple items like jackets, shorts and dresses.

Easy Outfit

I have had my eye on these graphic print maxi dresses by Religion recently! So easy, yet stylish. Just add ankle boots and a ton of chunky jewellery. Love.

Rockabilly Revival

Leave it to Isabel Marant to come up with a new take on 2 trends: leather and the 1950s. We have seen a proliferation of leather on the catwalks and at the most glamorous parties over the past few seasons: the biker jacket, the leather shorts, studded leather boots and now we have the leather capris! These are slim fitted, with zips at the side to maintain rock-chic credentials. Isabel Marant is the queen of sparking new trends due to her wearable take on effortlessly cool rive-gauche chic, and as a result, these red leather capris (pictured) have become one of the most coveted items this season. Kookai (apparently they have had a recent revamp) have done a copycat version at a fraction of the price. The trick here is keeping the rest of the look relatively simple and injecting an ironic dash of '50s rockabilly chic.

Pleasing Pleats

A continuation of the preppy look of this Autumn/Winter, there were pleats a plenty on the Spring Summer '11 catwalks. Always a step ahead of the game, uber-cool Swedish label Acne have produced this gorgeous khaki pleated maxi for their Autumn/Winter collection. To be worn with boots and knits for grungy glamour at its best.

The trend that just won't quit

Once again, for Autumn Winter 2010, designers have taken inspiration from the wild as leopard, ocelot, and cheetah prints stalk their way onto our fashion consciousness. When worn correctly of course, animal print can be extremely high-octane glamour. It cries out for perfection: immaculate makeup and killer accessories to offset its impact. It demands a certain amount of dramatic flair and attitude. It is the attention seeker of the sartorial world, the fashion equivalent of a high maintenance friend or lover. That is what makes it just so irresistible to wear and to experiment with, and why it has become one of the most enduring trends of our time. Let your animal instinct take over and dare to wear.

Daytime Dressing: Prep School

The preppy look was one of my most unexpected trends this autumn. At the same time however, it is a very simple trend that anyone can carry off.

Style references: Clueless, Empire Records, Miu Miu, Ivy League colleges

Styling tips: be a back-to-school rebel with ankle socks in bright pops of colour worn with wedge heeled ankle boots; add classic touches like leather gloves or a prim handbag; accessorise with fierce cuffs or bangles piled high, Gap Year style; wear shirts under pullovers and roll up the sleeves and undo the buttons on your cuffs and collars.

Best of the high street: Cos, Zara, Tabio, H and M
